Heroine 2012 Bollywood Movie Review

Written By Unknown on Friday, 21 September 2012 | 07:47

Story: A gritty tale, the story begins with Mahie Arora (kareena) who is a top league actress. Success and fame is what Mahie wants in the film industry. However, she is very impulsive, lacks emotional control and does anything once she loses her cool. This affects her relationship with her lover Aryan Khanna (Arjun Rampal) and also her career. As Mahie starts taking decisions which are quite a gamble she goes through various experiences in her life. Whether she achieved what she wanted to or not forms the rest of the story.

Presentation: The director has come up with a thought provoking storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative was slow.  The dialogues were normal, the script was average and the screenplay was balanced. Background score was effective but some tunes were copied and two songs were not that appealing. Cinematography was upto the mark. Editing was required at few places. Costumes were well designed while the art department was appealing. Kareena Kapoor shouldered the role very well and depicts the various facets very well. Arjun Rampal looks very worned out. Randeep Hooda was brief but good. Mugdha Godse was moderate. Govind Namdeo was good. Helen was apt. Ranvir Shorey was excellent. Divya Dutt was effective. The others did their bit as required and added value.

Conclusion: A film related to the film industry is always an exciting one for the cine industry folks but this time the journey of an actress has been shown well. While the first half goes about with the various ups and downs, the second half goes about with how certain decisions in life can change the fortunes of people. Overall, this is a film which has tried to showcase the other side of a heroine’s life. At the box office, this will be a commercial success if it was not for the drag.

Cinejocks verdict: Sensible and realistic, can be watched

Barfi 2012 Bollywood Movie Review

Written By Unknown on Monday, 17 September 2012 | 00:37

Story: A heart touching tale, the story begins in the backdrop of Darjeeling and here lives Murphy (ranbir) who is called as Barfi by the locals. He cannot hear or speak but he is a darling for many as he is full of life and plays pranks all the time. And he has a special charm when it comes to the ladies. That’s what gets him to the rather classy Shruti (ileana) who works as the narrator and the bubbly Jhilmil (priyanka) who is also differently abled. However, hanging out with the ladies brings many ups and downs in Murphy’s life and what happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Presentation: The director has come up with a thought provoking storyline and while the presentation was rich, the narrative was gripping.  The dialogues were good, the script was sensible and the screenplay was effective. Background score was haunting and songs were worth humming. Cinematography was excellent. Editing was required during the first half. Costumes were well designed while the art department was appealing. It is Ranbir’s show all the way as he shows his versatility in various phases. Priyanka Chopra is yet another competent performer who knows how to grab the attention. Ileana making her debut has stolen the limelight with her confident and rather impressive act. Saurabh Shukla was superb, Akash Khurana was apt, Ashish Vidyarthi was very nice, Rupa Ganguly and Jisshu made their presence felt. Haradhan Bandopadhyay was adorable.

Conclusion: For starters, this is not a film that can be called mainstream or commercial because the entire subject runs on a different backdrop and with characters who are not very visible in the regular society. While the first half is a bit dragging and loses few moments, it is the second half that picks up the steam and has a very touching result to it. Overall, the film scores due to its subject and the performances. Irrespective of its flavor, the box office would still be ringing some good numbers.

Cinejocks verdict: Different subject, interesting approach, neatly executed
