My friend's death saved me: Singer Elton John

Written By Unknown on Monday, 16 July 2012 | 06:14

Singer Elton John credits his late friend for helping him overcome his drug addiction. The singer was a huge cocaine addict when his 18-year-old friend Ryan White died of AIDS in 1990. John, 65, admits that the teenager played a big part in inspiring him to overcome his addictions, reports femalefirst.co.uk. In his forthcoming book, "Love is the Cure: On Life, Loss and the End of AIDS", he wrote: "Ryan was a true hero, a true Christian, because he unconditionally forgave those who made him suffer. Ryan changed the course of a deadly epidemic and helped save millions of lives."

"But when Ryan died in April 1990 at the age of 18, I didn't know how to speak to someone unless I had a nose full of cocaine and a stomach full of alcohol. After his funeral, I returned to London and locked myself away at home. My sense of values was buried under my self-destruction. But I'm here today because of Ryan," he added.

The musician is regretful that he didn't do more about the AIDS pandemic, and he believes it's a small miracle that he never contracted HIV.

"I'm deeply ashamed that I did not do more about AIDS back then when my friends, including Ryan, were dying all around me and did not have the strength or sobriety to do anything about it. I would go to funerals, would mourn and my behaviour got worse, I was sleeping around without protection and it is a small miracle that I never contracted HIV myself," John wrote.

Pop star Pink readying for first tour after becoming mom

Pop star Pink is planning a tour for the first time since giving birth to daughter Willow last year. The "So What" hitmaker put her career on hold after becoming mother, but she recently stepped back into the spotlight with comeback single "Blow Me" that is scheduled for release in September this year.
Now Pink is making plans for a tour to promote the record along with her 13-month-old baby.
"I am looking forward to getting back into it. It feels completely new. I've become one of those parents who talks about nothing else other than their kids. I can't wait to do it because it will be seeing the world through Willow's eyes," sun.co.uk quoted the 32-year-old as saying.

"It will be devastating every time I have to leave her, but mostly she will be coming with me everywhere I have a pretty cool gig. The longest we have had apart is four hours in the last year. I think she needs a break from me," she added.

Understanding people special for Cole

Singer Cheryl Cole does not find the tag of being sexy special and says that her ability to see people's heart is her special quality. "I view people differently. It's almost as if I can see people from the inside and that's far more special to me," more.com quoted Cole as saying.
The 29-year-old said she does not see herself as sexy.
"I just don't see myself like that. You know those 'FHM (magazine's) Sexy Women' or whatever. I don't jump out of bed and frame them," she added.

The singer is rumoured to be writing her autobiography.

"I'm torn, the past 10 years have been incredible, the whole of my twenties. That would be amazing to put into words, and go into my 30s with a clean slate," she said.
